Şeyma Barut
Born in Istanbul in 1987, Şeyma Barut received her undergraduate degree from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. For many years, Barut focused on the forms of domination that society imposes on genders and the effects of these structures on individuals. Through her imagery, she aims to prompt viewers to question the situation they find themselves in, what is expected, or what is assumed to be “appropriate.” In her recent work, she concentrates on the relationships between subject–object–space and individual–society.
