Meliha Sözeri
She was born in Antalya in 1982 and completed her undergraduate studies in the Sculpture Department of Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts in 2004. She received her master’s degree in Sculpture from Marmara University Institute of Fine Arts in 2007 and later completed the Proficiency in Art program in the same department. Since 2019, Sözeri has been working as a Lecturer in the Fine Arts Department at Istanbul Technical University.
The artist continues her academic and artistic work in Istanbul, has participated in national and international exhibitions, and has taken part in various events and symposiums. She also has published articles and awards. In her artistic production, she first establishes a conceptual framework shaped by the context of the work, focusing on themes such as politics, everyday life, individual and collective relations, systems, and transparency. Her academic work includes research on Architecture, the City, and Sculpture. Her master’s thesis, titled “Sculptural Forms in Architecture from the 1970s to Today,” examines the intersections and interactions of architecture and sculpture from an artistic perspective. Her Proficiency in Art research focuses on “Sculptural Practices that Invert Perception within Contemporary Art.”
In her recent works, the artist often reconstructs ordinary everyday objects using dominant wire materials. The transparent, perforated wire she employs envelops space like lace, with all its labor, delicacy, and translucency. Through material and form, she questions conceptual relationships and continues her practice in her studio in Istanbul.
