Ayşecan Kurtay
After graduating from Saint Benoit French High School, she began her artistic practice in Yusuf Taktak’s studio. In 1997, she founded the M.E.B. Sanat Duragi Painting and Ceramics Workshop. In addition to her solo exhibitions, she continues to participate in curated and project-based shows.
Her exploration of color, stain, movement, and balance in abstract art led her to recognize the distinct order and hierarchy within traditional arts, prompting her to join Dürdane Ünver’s Kat’i (paper cutting) Workshop for deeper study. In her works, we observe the tension of contrasts and the interwoven nature of everything—reflecting the complexities of the time we live in. Her short story and poetry practice also resonates in her paintings, emerging as an interplay between literature and the visual arts.
