Labirent Sanat is pleased to present Canan Maktal’s first solo exhibition “A Free Spirit Cannot Be Shackled!”, curated by Dilek Maktal Canko, which will be open to the audience from September 5 to September 21, 2024.

The exhibition reveals the struggle of women throughout history to carve out a place for themselves in a male-dominated society and the traces of this struggle that continue today. It tells the stories of 25 women who have stood strong and achieved success in a world ruled by male authority. These powerful stories, which Canan Maktal has long been sharing in Ot Magazine, are now being presented to the audience through this exhibition.

The paintings she created with torn paper symbolize the shattered hearts and souls of women during their struggle. The paintings powerfully reflect how women, in all their simplicity, have reassembled themselves and look into our eyes with determination. Through this exhibition, Maktal showcases the strength and resilience of women, inviting the audience to discover this power within themselves.
